With the advent of brush on mineral make-up, women of all ages are deciding that less is better.  To wear that look, many are turning to specialists to rejuvenate their skin.  Some area women are finding help at Anna Bella's Retreat, which specializes in skin care therapy, offers pharmaceutical grade products and has the support of a medical director.
Owner and skin therapist Gail Dusil expanded and moved her business from Dunedin to Belleair Bluffs last fall, and after months of renovation and a $35,000 investment, opened in mid February.  Andrea Layman of Belleair began going to Dusil several years ago for treatment of sun damage and occasional skin problems.  "I never really felt like I had a bad complexion, but I'd wear piles of makeup," said Layman, a 30 something lawyer and designer.  "When I started seeing Gail and using the products she suggested, I realized I didn't need the makeup.  The results I've had with her have been pretty substantial.  She's created a gift for me that I wasn't aware of.  I look natural and it's like I glow, my skin has a glow."  Layman said she recommended friends to Dusil.  "I tell them, 'Do whatever she suggests and you'll be happy," she said.
Dusil, who is 52and lives in Largo, worked 29 years in the corporate world of sales, most recently in medical equipment and supplies, before deciding to go back to school for a career in skin care and therapy.  She works part time with a former medical sales client, Dr. Barbara Frangos, who is director of LaserSpa of Tampa Bay in Tarpon Springs and trained in laser and pulsed light skin treatments.  When Dusil opened in Belleair Bluffs, Frangos became the business' medical director.
Anna Bella's offers a variety of one-hour facial treatments for $60 to $70, acid peels for an additional $20, waxing at prices ranging from $10 for upper lip to $35 for full face, microderm-abrasion at prices ranging from $95 for one treatment to $295 for four treatments, special packages and mineral makeup makeovers.  Dusil also offers back facials.  "The back is one of the areas that is truly neglected because we can't reach it," she said.  Treatment includes deep pore cleansing, exfoliation, extractions and a special mask.  Cost is $70 for an hour.  Oxygen infusion facials are available as a $25 add-on to any facial.  The treatments focus on inflammation, acne, antiaging and dermal recovery.
Dusil recently added massage therapy to Anna Bella's.  Melody Hurley's therapies include Swedish, deep tissue and hot stone massage.  Seated massage is available for $15 for 15 minutes or $30 for a half-hour.  The 35 year old Largo resident also does sea salt or sugar exfoliaton and moisturizing, body wraps and other therapies.  Angie Rollins, who works in landscaping, has been a client of Hurley's for 18 months.  She regularly has deep tissue and hot stone treatments.  "I'm very active.  I do a lot of tree trimming and removal and my muscles get sore," said the 44 year old Pinellas Park resident.  And she has problems from an old back injury.  After a recent treatment, she said, "For the first time in a long time, my shoulders didn't feel like rocks."  Rollins said Hurley takes time to do treatments specific to her problems.  "I've had physical therapists that haven't done as well as she has," she said.
